Spend Less - Give More

One of the things I'm going to encourage people to do in the message this Sunday is to consider spending less this Christmas season so that we can give more to help people unwrap God's in expressible gift of Jesus.

I'd love to hear what ideas that you might have about how to do this. You can post your responses here or go to our Facebook page and respond there.

The are so many ways that we can spend less this Christmas season! One of the most important things is to not fall into the "I should buy this because it is on sale" mentality. Make a list of the gifts that you are going to buy and only buy those items! If you find those items on sale, great. Better yet, talk to to people you normally give gifts to and see if they would be willing to spend the money that they would have spent on a gift for you to buy items to donate.

I am not planning on buying gifts for our girls because they will get plenty of gifts from other people. Instead we will go shopping with that money to buy presents to give to the Gospel Rescue Mission. Even though the girls are young, I think it is important to involve them in the process so they begin to understand the importance of sharing God's blessings with others!

I think that it is also important to spend less all year long in order to have more to give. God has given me the gift of clipping coupons and sales shopping (who knew coupon clipping could be a gift from God). When there is a sale on non-perishable goods, I stock up and then when a food drive comes along I have plenty of items to donate. I also buy personal hygiene items and put together kits to donate to the Gospel Rescue Mission. With God's help, I was able to donate 15 personal hygiene kits last week. When you donate to an organization like the Gospel Rescue Mission, you know that your donations are being used to help share the gift of Jesus. That is so much more important than getting more stuff!
