Judges 1-7

This book certainly doesn't paint Israel in a good light as they continually turn away from God and to their own ways. And that kindles God's anger. But God remains faithful to His covenant with His people and continues to treat them with mercy and grace.

It seems like the people of Israel were far too dependent on a capable leader in their attempts to remain faithful to God. Good leaders are certainly important, but I don't want my relationship with God to depend solely on them. I have to take responsibility for my own relationship with God.

I'm so glad that God is not like me. He is so patient with His people. They continuously rebelled against Him and yet when they finally got to the end of their rope and called out to Him, He equipped someone to deliver His people. And even when Gideon was slow to trust God, God was patient with him as well.

There is a lesson for me to learn about how I am to treat those who rebel against God. I need to be patient with them until God gets a hold of their heart.
