Genesis 7-12

Hopefully, like me, you've now settled into our four year reading schedule. I'm finding I really like this pace - hope it's working for you, too.

It's interesting to use the information on Genesis 7 and 8 to calculate how long Noah and his family were on the ark with all those animals. I'm not going to give you the answer so see if you can figure it out - my guess is that it's a lot longer than most of us think.

Throughout the first part of Genesis, God is revealed as a God of order. The creation itself is very orderly rather than just some haphazard "accident". Things always reproduce "after their kind". All life consists of "male and female".

My comment on Gen 1-10 is a song I wrote to thank God for what He has done:

Steve,
I think you're pretty close, but I came up with a slightly different number:
In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, on the seventeenth day of the month, on that day all the fountains of the great deep burst forth, and the windows of the heavens were opened. (Genesis 7:11, ESV)
According to verse 10, they went into the ark 7 days before that = the 10th day of the 2nd month of the 600th year.
They left the ark on the 27th day of the 2nd month of the 601st year.
So by my calculations that is 1 year and 17 days - or so.
