Genesis 19-24
In Genesis 20 Abraham takes things into his own hands by saying Sarah is his sister for the second time. To me this is why it is so easy to believe the Bible is true. The "heroes" of the faith are shown "warts and all". They are never portrayed as larger than life. God chose Abraham to be the father of His people knowing that he was an imperfect man who would often fail in his faith. But God just keeps showing him grace.

In the incident with Hagar and Ishmael being sent away, we again see God's mercy in committing to make a nation of Ishmael, but his firmness in his sovereignty that the primary blessing will go according to his choosing, according to his original plan, not according to man's pushing ahead. We get a hint of Ishmael and Hagar's character in the way they treat Sarah and Isaac, perhaps that being part of the reason they are sent away.
Shekels being about 2/5 ounce, that was 160 ounces of silver. Current price of silver is about $22 per ounce, so in some respects the price of the field and cave was $3520. I would assume that silver had more buying power then.

Gen. 19 - To this day, those who don't know God respond to the pleas or warnings of God-believers by accusing them of being judgmental, or by saying they must be joking. We shouldn't let these responses discourage us from speaking God's truth. All people need to know God's requirements, and His path of mercy.
